Classicon, E1027
Eileen Gray, 1927

Adjustable side table. Frame of chromium-plated steel tubing. Top of crystal glass clear, parsol grey or metal black.
Among the classics this is perhaps the classic. Its ingeniously proportioned, distinctive form has made this height-adjustable table into one of the most popular design icons of the 20th century. It is named after the summer house E 1027, “Maison en bord de mer”, that Eileen Gray built for herself and for her collaborator, Jean Badovici. Likewise, the secret code-name comes from her: E is for Eileen, 10 for Jean (J is the 10th letter of the alphabet), 2 for B(adovici) and 7 for G(ray).

Vitra, 06
Maarten Van Severen, 2005

Revealing the same lack of compromise with regard to shape as the .05, the great comfort of the .06 becomes apparent only when it is used. The flexible integrated foam seat and back shell, with foam-coated compound springs in the back, provide a sensation of dynamic seating. The stainless steel tubular frame means the chair is ideally suited for outdoor use.

Vitra, Stool
Charles Eames and Ray Eames, 1960

In 1960 the Eames office was commissioned by Time Inc. to fit out three lobbies in the Rockefeller Center in New York. As well as complete interior fixtures and fittings the project included the comfortable Lobby Chairs and a series of solid walnut stools. These turned stools which (as Ray Eames originally intended) can also be used as occasional tables, have three different design details in their centre sections.

Vitra, Monopod
Jasper Morrison, 2008

Jasper Morrison’s Monopod is a sculptural peice, vaguely reminiscent of primordial stone or wooden objects. The Monopod stands sturdily, tapering with an elegant curve to a wedge-shaped backrest. As a small visitor armchair, the Monopod is a companion for sofas and larger armchairs, and in public areas thanks to its solidity can be used in lounges and reception areas. The structure of the armchair, with its plastic shell upholstered on the inside means that the Monopod retains its precise shape even if used for lengthier periods and is very comfortable.

Porro, Groove
Piero Lissoni, 2008

Simplicity, equilibrium and symmetry - the basic principles of typically Zen aesthetics, can be found in the Groove bench in solid wood. The bench is obtained by means of a single horizontal beam, raised on two support bases which are inclined and jointed. A project reduced to minimum terms where every element exerts a clear structural function. The elementary nature of the sign exalts the richness of the support. The particular nature of the product is all encapsulated in the material used - Hemlock wood, a North- American wood with incredibly clear veins, with the chromatic spectrum between white and yellow.
